Door-to-Door
Solicitation Permit Required

Belle Isle Residents,

The City of Belle Isle has seen an increase in door-to-door soliciting throughout the City. It is a violation of the Home Solicitation Sale and Chapter 20 of the City of Belle Isle Ordinances for any person to solicit in the City without first obtaining a solicitation permit. Only the City Manager has the authority to issue a solicitation permit in Belle Isle.

If a solicitor comes to your door for ANY reason, DO NOT open the door. Please call the non-emergency number at 407.836.4357. Tell the dispatcher you are a Belle Isle resident and you would like an officer to respond to investigate a solicitor. You will need to describe the individual and their direction of travel.

Residents have been hesitant to report solicitors, believing it is a minor thing, and they don’t want to bother the police. That is the wrong kind of thinking!! The Belle Isle Police Department (BIPD) wants you to report any solicitors or suspicious persons promptly so an officer can identify the individual and determine their reason for being in your area.  Please remember that solicitors may not be solicitors, and they could be “casing” your property.  That is why this is NOT a minor thing!!

You may have a person say that they are not soliciting, but they are only exercising free speech to “talk” to residents about their programs. Call anyway, and please let officers investigate the legality of people going door to door; let BIPD be the judge.

Residents should consider putting a “No Soliciting” sign visible on your property to discourage any unwelcome visitors.
